Got7Yugyeom recently revealed that he had faced financial struggles during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, despite the fact that the group achieved significant success at the time.
The revelation came during an interview with the University of Southern California as part of Billboard’s Artist Spotlight series, in which the idol reflected on his personal challenges and on the advice shared with the students.
Yugyeom revealed that during the pandemia he had no individual programs and was entrusted exclusively on group activities. As a main head of the family for his family, this lack of work caused him a significant financial stress.
“Financially, I am the family’s head of the family right now, but there was a time when I had no money. During the pandemic, I had no job. I always looked at my bank account”, he he he said.
This was a shock for fans, given the high profile return of Got7 in 2020, including their EP Dyeing and album in the studio Breath of Love: Last piecewho beat the sales records for the group. Fans were ready to question how these financial difficulties could occur, especially because Got7 was under Jyp Entertainment at that time, one of the “Big Three” agencies of K-Pop.
“Jyp made them make up? When the pandemic hit, they still did a return, and that was one of their highest sales”, an online user he wrote. “Jyp also supplied their old albums and YG wrote many famous Got7 songs, so it should get royalties.”
Yugyeom noticed that he turned to the creation of music and choreographed dance routines with friends to face the lack of work during the pandemic. These activities have opened the way to its transition to Aomg after leaving Jyp Entertainment in 2021.
Got7 did not dissolve. Although the group resolved its contracts with Jyp Entertainment in 2021, they continued to operate as a team despite the members joined to various agencies. The group has released its new “winter EPTA” mini-album January 20.
