The number of Korean celebrities exempted from military service due to mental health conditions has increased significantly in the last five years, arousing concerns about potential escapade in the system.
Recent data obtained by the legislator Kang Dae Sik from Military Manoding Administration (MMA) revealed that in 2023, 50 celebrities out of 272 assigned to social service roles were sorry for duty after being in waiting lists extended due to mental illness. This represents 18.38% of the total.
Based on current regulations, if the number of people awaiting enrollment of the Social Service has exceeded the application, those who have been waiting for over three years have been reclassified as work staff in war (Grado 5), effectively releasing them from their service obligations.
