Meaning twice “donut”
Despite having taken its name from a beloved treatment, the donut of twice does not concern food. Instead, the title symbolizes the void that the singer experiences if apart from a loved one. The texts express a deep desire and sadness, which implies that although the couple does not necessarily have broken, various circumstances often separate them. The “Doughnut -shaped hole” in his heart indicates the special place reserved for that person, highlighting the profound effect of their absence.
Apart from his poetic metaphor, the music video “Ciambella” takes a darker turning point, intertwining a mysterious and tragic plot. It begins with a threatening scene of a donut that exudes a substance similar to blood, followed by the appearance of Mina, suggesting that the dessert has been poisoned and that it could be the only survivor among the members.
Nayeon is the first to fall victim to, apparently attracted by the murderer, who works on the donut shop. He seems to have a crush on him, unaware of the fact that he gave her poisoned donuts. Healthy, captured by the excitement of a new love story, is blinded by love and lacks warning signals, leading to his disappearance. Jihyo is poisoned later, but unconsciously, it is Dahyun who delivers the fatal donuts to her, acting under the influence of the murderer. When Dahyun realizes the truth, he eats herself the poisoned donuts, looking for comfort in a final meeting with others. Jihyo, understanding that Dahyun was manipulated, forgives her and waits for her in the afterlife.
Momo, completely unaware of the poisoning, is subsequently seen in the sky, playing with a snowman, perhaps a representation of the murderer. Jeongyeon, unlike the others, is given the poisoned coffee and soon joins the group in the afterlife.
Tzuyu, however, pieces all together and tries to warn Chaeyoung. But before Chaeyung can grasp full danger, he consumes a poisoned donut. Suspecting the disgusting game, follows the killer in his kitchen, where he finds a donut loomed between a pile of ugly, possibly symbolize the tragic fate of Tzuyu. If Tzuyu has been assassinated or taken his life he remains ambiguous.
Now, Mina is the last remaining. A touching scene with Chaeyung suggests that Mina may secretly hide feelings for her, but she has never confessed. In the meantime, Chaeyoung may have fallen in love with the murderer, unconsciously walking in danger. While Mina remembers their time together, the disturbing line of Dahyun, “there is a place for you”, echoes in the background. It could mean that the other members are waiting for Mina in the afterlife, but at the same time, pleading with her not to follow their destiny.
