While investigations continue to understand what went wrong Irregular Flight 2216 that took 179 lives, fliers aboard South Korean airlines remain vigilant for signs of plane malfunction. Such vigilance bore fruit on January 25, 2025 at 12:25 pm Thailand local time.
Asiana Airlines Flight Oz766 was scheduled to depart from Chiang Mai International Airport in Thailand and arrive at Incheon International Airport. However, after passengers reported seeing “Sparks near the Engine “During pre-acquisition preparations on the runway, the flight was immediately cancelled.
The airline responded to the situation by safely obtaining 270 passengers from the affected aircraft and placing them in hotels. A replacement flight was scheduled for 4.55pm later the same day.
An Asiana Airlines official stated, “We are currently addressing the extent of the engine malfunction and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to our passengers.”
Meanwhile, the former head of Korea Airports Corp – who was responsible during the renovation of an instrument landing system locator at Muan International Airport – had been found dead.
