The Seoul Subway is under fire following an incident at the B station of the subway line 5, where an employee and a female employee were caught engaging in inappropriate behavior during working hours. The accident occurred on the afternoon of January 4 inside a facility intended exclusively for female staff.
Audit office staff conducting a routine inspection became suspicious after noticing unusual activity near the women’s area. They called multiple times before a male employee emerged and attempted to explain his presence by claiming he had come into the facility to get coffee. When questioned further, his response raised concerns, prompting one of the auditors to inspect the facility.
Inside, the employee was found in a compromising position, reportedly without her lower clothing. The male staff member later admitted kissing the female employee while she claimed she was changing clothes.
The incident attracted attention not only for the misconduct itself, but also for the audit office’s response. Allegations emerged that the bureau sought to suppress information about the incident by requiring those involved, as well as other station employees, to sign confidentiality agreements. This sparked outrage, as the office is expected to ensure accountability and transparency, especially in cases of workplace misconduct.
Concerns are growing that Seoul Metro attempted to downplay or hide the incident under the guise of maintaining professional confidentiality. Critics argue that such actions could erode public trust in the organization and its commitment to ethical practices.
