He asked for thousands of dollars.
K-Pop can become a very expensive hobby for fans trying to keep up with their favorite idols’ releases, attend concerts and purchase merchandise. The prices of these items, in fact, have become a topic of debate among enthusiasts.
Ticket prices for BTS’ J-Hope concert evoke very mixed reactions
Additionally, more exclusive events, like fansigns, can quickly increase costs into the thousands. Recently, a fan site master drew attention for his treatment of his own mother in exchange for money at K-Pop events.
In a Weibo post, messages between the fansite owner and her mother show the fan asking for money, then responding rudely when denied and even threatening to self-harm.
Fansite Master (FM): You can give me $15,000 RMB (about 2,047 USD)
FM: ?
FM: Speak. Don’t pretend to be blind.
FM: Reply directly.
FM: Haven’t my actions proven to you that I’m crazy?
FM: You still think I’m weak?
FM: Do you think it’s okay to casually apologize?
Mother (M): How funny.
M: I never thought you were a pushover. I just don’t have the skills. Excuse me!
FM: Is it really like that?
FM: I said that my sentimental value is greater than everything else.
FM: I don’t mind killing myself slowly by not taking medicine or eating.
M: Honey, we’ve done our best so far. Please understand! I tried everything: where do I get the money from? You have your emotional value, what about mine? Can I earn more if I give up my conscience? Truly?
FM: Let’s say that if someone asks, it’s your problem.
FM: Stop trying to persuade me gently.
FM: This doesn’t work for me.
FM: What do you mean by “understand”?
FM: Do you understand me?
The fansite master then reveals that they are attempting to participate in the latest fansign as well ENIPENEcontinuing to speak harshly. He also says he attended all but two of their events for that comeback cycle.

FM: Look carefully.
FM: Can you read the words “last fansign”? Do you know how to write it?
FM: I’ve already tried to spend less money.
FM: I don’t participate unless absolutely necessary.
FM: And you?
FM: You think I have no self-control.
FM: My goal was to attend all their fansigns.
FM:But because of you,
FM: I missed two.
M: We communicate calmly. Don’t get angry, it’s not good for your health.
FM:Give me a reason.
FM: It’s all because of you and your attitude.
FM: Do you still want me to stay calm?
FM: In your dreams.
FM: Take a look at what you’ve done.
FM: Always pray to others.
FM: Stop acting useless and pitiful all the time.
FM: It’s disgusting and hypocritical.
FM: You can earn money by selling your useless things in the glass cupboard.
FM: There are many ways.
FM: But you’re not willing to do them.
The mother then attempts to reason with her, with little success as the fansite master tries to make her feel guilty in order to give her more money. The conversation seems to end when the mother firmly denies spending more after having already spent.
M: Isn’t the money saved 10 cents, 1 dollar, 10 dollars, 100, 1,000, 10,000 and so on?
FM:Then from now on don’t spend a single cent.
FM:Can you do it?
M: It won’t work if we need $10,000 (about 1,365 USD)?
FM:Do I by any chance need 10,000 dollars?
M: We need to make sure we meet basic living needs before saving.
FM:How about $10,000 to buy you health supplements, food and basic necessities?
FM:You’re crazy.
FM:I understand hahaha.
M: They are the most useless thing.
M: Tell me, what is the meaning of the latest fansign?
FM:Don’t you understand what “last” means?
FM: Don’t you understand what “last” means?
FM: Did you go to college at all?
FM: Do you need me to teach you?
FM: You’re funny.
M: Is this the latest fansign of the beautiful boys? Aren’t there more after that?
FM: The last one for this return
FM: Crazy.
FM: The next one will be next year.
FM: Look how anxious you are.
FM: So funny.
FM: I love seeing you be anxious.
FM: I love seeing you be anxious.
FM: Eheheh.
M: I would understand if you told me clearly.?
FM: ??
FM: ???
FM: Is there something wrong with your brain or are your comprehension skills too lacking?
FM: Are you shifting the blame?
FM: Surprising.
FM: I’m just a tool who takes all the blame.
FM: Fun.
FM: This is the meaning of my existence
M: If I didn’t want to commit, I wouldn’t have accompanied you around the country and abroad, going from city to city to see your idols.
FM: I just need the benefit I have in front of me right now.
FM: Shut up.
FM: So funny.
FM: Don’t even try to point that out again.
FM: Stop changing the subject.
FM: You didn’t listen to a single thing I said.
FM: You only care about yourself.
FM: You don’t want to try your hardest for me.
FM: If it’s tuition, you’d get the money from somewhere.
FM: The point is that you don’t want to fulfill my wishes.
FM: You only want to commit to things that you think are worth it.
The fansite is supposedly a fan of Heeseung, and a video call with the idol shows her breaking down in tears while talking to him.
