According to Newsen on January 15, A, who filed a defamation lawsuit against Hwang Jung-eum last June after being misidentified as a lover, confirmed that the lawsuit has been dropped. Defamation is classified as a non-punishable crime, meaning that if the victim does not wish to pursue punishment, no penalty is imposed.
In April last year, Hwang Jung-eum uploaded a screenshot of A’s post via his social media along with the message: “Ugly woman, please marry Young-don. Can’t you just get a divorce and go to Bangkok?” This led to a misunderstanding that A was having an affair with Hwang Jung-eum’s husband, Lee Young-don. However, “Lee Young-don” in A’s post referred to A’s friend who was a non-famous woman Hwang Jung-eum later apologized, stating: “I misunderstood a stranger as my husband’s lover.” However, despite attempts at reconciliation, A filed a defamation lawsuit against her.
In this regard, a representative from Hwang Jung-eum’s agency told Newsen: “Currently, A has withdrawn the suit and the matter has been resolved amicably. The exact timing of the withdrawal is unclear.“
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung-eum, who married former golfer Lee Young-don in 2016 and has two children, revealed that she was going through a divorce in February last year. She is currently active as a regular MC on SBS Plus and on E Channel’s variety show “Why I’m Alone”.
