The announcement reassured fans that all tickets will be refunded. However, no further indication was given about rescheduling the concert to a later date.

While this announcement greatly disappointed fansit also brought an unexpected amount of hate and ridicule. Most of the hate comments were related to Taeyang’s comments in a recent CNN interview, in which he stated that his group contributed to the recognition of K-Pop in the global market.

Luckily, we were able to open doors to global markets for many K-Pop bands who came after us. And they can perform on world stages. I wouldn’t say we presented it, but it’s great that our efforts played a role in that.

— Taeyang

Many took this comment out of context and began flooding the singer’s Instagram posts with “BTS he paved the way” he comments. The announcement of the concert’s cancellation also garnered similar comments X (former Twitter), and many made derogatory comments about the popularity of BIGBANG and Taeyang.

The vitriol against Taeyang was so bad that it prompted CNN to release the full clip of him making that comment. His full response offered more context to what he was actually trying to convey. You can read more about it here.
