On January 9, Bae Seul-ki’s agency, Chan Entertainment, released a statement announcing that it had decided to take strong legal action against death threats recently made against the actress and her YouTuber husband Shim Lee-seop.
Recently, malicious posts targeting Bae Seul-ki and her family, including her husband, were found in an online community.
Bae Seul-ki revealed in a phone call with X Sports News, “I don’t actually use the community, so I didn’t know anything about it” and continued, “A few days ago, suddenly, the police came to my house. I was shocked.
He said, “I found out about the death threats when the police told me,” and added, “I am grateful to the person who reported the matter.”
Bae Seul-ki explained, “The threats were so serious that the police had to respond” and shared that she canceled her plans, including a hospital visit with her baby, out of concern.
In addition to the threatening posts aimed at the couple, comments also arrived aimed at their son. Bae Seul-ki expressed his frustration, “I was honestly angry. I talked about it with the company. I have ignored numerous malicious comments in the past because there are people who don’t like you, but this time the severity was too much and the company was very worried.”
She ultimately decided to take legal action for the sake of her son, “The original post has been deleted, but my husband has received a report and has already filed a lawsuit through his lawyer.”
His agency also said it is working with law enforcement to track down the authors of harmful posts and comments and will hold them legally accountable without tolerance.
While methods like deleting records or taking down accounts are becoming more widespread, the agency revealed that they are collecting posts and requesting cooperation from sites. They expressed a strong position, stating that they will continue the legal action in cooperation with their legal team, earning the support and encouragement of many fans.
Meanwhile, Bae Seul-ki married YouTube creator Shim Lee-seop in November 2020, and in October they welcomed their first child after four years of marriage, receiving many congratulations.
