First-generation girl group Baby VOX, which debuted in 1997 under the DR Music label, added then-member Lee Gai in 1998 after a multi-member reorganization.

At the time, Lee Gai, who attracted skepticism because she looked older than her stated age, was eventually exposed for falsifying her birth year. She was originally born in 1968, but was suggested to act like a ’78 liner, leading to her being kicked off the team that same year.

She has since disappeared from the music scene.

Surprisingly, on January 3 and 7 – more than 20 years later – Lee Gai finally broke his silence and updated on his recent status through comments he left under a fan-run YouTube channel uploading old Baby VOX clips, which It was also reported by the Korean media Wikitree.

Here she revealed her recent status in life and once again apologized for misleading her fans.

“I live with a different name now, after changing it. I got calls from broadcasting companies and they came to the restaurant where I worked, so I’m taking a break at the moment,” Lee Gai said.

“I have never lived a single day comfortably after deceiving my fans and the public. I am only talking about it now, 20 years later, but I have lived without being able to say anything.”

As for his Baby VOX co-members who recently reunited at the 2024 KBS Gayo Daechukje on December 20, the alleged eldest member expressed his love for them, even after many years had passed. However, he also confirmed that they are no longer in contact due to his deep sense of guilt.

“Seeing my friends standing gracefully on stage made me think of the old days for a moment. The members held me crying and told me not to leave, but I have my conscience and could no longer contact them.”

Meanwhile, in one of his comments, he explained his side of having faked his age and pointed out the label as the mastermind of the whole lie.

“I initially started training with the goal of becoming the female version of Roo’ra, but things changed when I seriously injured myself while dancing. Afterwards, the CEO of my agency tried to convince me to lie about my age, saying, ‘You look like twenty to other people.’ and they pressured me to fake my age,” the retired idol revealed.

“Just like the saying goes, don’t try to cover the whole sky with just the palm of your hand, I finally got caught and left the group. I was completely deceived by the promise of earning a lot of money, and I did something stupid deceiving my fan club and the public.”
