The trailer of BLACKPINK Jisoo‘s latest acting venture Newtopiahas just come out and has already sparked heated discussions online.
Known primarily for her music career, Jisoo plays the role of Yeong Ju, a young woman who navigates a difficult relationship with her boyfriend while dealing with a zombie apocalypse. Despite the star power she brings with her, initial reactions to her performance were extremely negative.
Newtopia centers on a zombie outbreak in an air defense skyscraper in Seoul. The plot follows Jae Yun – a soldier struggling with his future and a recent breakup – and Yeong Ju, his girlfriend who gets caught up in the chaos as she tries to reunite with him. Over the course of the story, Jae Yun, initially portrayed as insecure and shy, becomes a capable leader, while Yeong Ju finds inner strength in the fight for survival.
The series promises action, emotional drama and high stakes, but it seems the spotlight has shifted to Jisoo’s acting, with many questioning her suitability for the role.
The trailer quickly became a trending topic on online forums, with one post active TheQoo alone it has totaled 35,000 views. Many netizens expressed disappointment with the way Jisoo spoke, as her pronunciation and vocal tone were singled out as major issues. The comments section was flooded with criticism.
