On the morning of January 7, the press conference for Coupang Play’s “Newtopia” series was held at the Grand Ballroom of Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by director Yoon Sung-hyun and actors Park Jeong-min and Jisoo.
“Newtopia” follows soldier Jae-yoon (Park Jeong-min) and his girlfriend Young-ju (Jisoo) as they navigate a zombie-infested Seoul, racing through the chaos to reunite.
Jisoo plays Kang Young-ju, a “rookie” in the company. After struggling with a guy who doesn’t understand her feelings, she breaks up with him, only to encounter a zombie outbreak on her way to meet him.
During the event, Jisoo said, “When BLACKPINK members achieve something, they celebrate with me like it’s my success. It really makes me feel the depth of our family bond.”
He added with a smile: “Filming this drama made me want to work even harder. I hope ‘Newtopia’ gets a lot of love too. If this project is successful, I will be able to share my story with the members. I hope it goes well enough for them to feel proud of me.”
Additionally, Jisoo shared the reasons why she chose “Newtopia.”
When asked why she chose the project, Jisoo replied: “I’ve seen a lot of zombie-themed work. When I read the script, I found that it included not only a zombie outbreak, but also a variety of colorful and unique events. It seemed like a new take on zombie dramas, so I decided to join without hesitation, especially with director Yoon Sung-hyun and actor Park Jeong-min involved..”
Director Yoon praised Jisoo, “Jisoo is so funny. It’s not easy to laugh out loud while watching YouTube, but I found it so funny. Working with her was amazing and I couldn’t stop admiring her talent.“
Jisoo found the director intriguing. He said: “Everyone who knows him would agree that he is unique and quirky. He kept telling me I was eccentric too, which was funny. We ended up having a lot of resonance during the filming and I relied on him a lot. It was a great help.”
Meanwhile, Coupang Play’s “Newtopia” will premiere on February 7 at 8 p.m.
