One of the scenes in the Netflix series “Squid Game 2” that attracted great attention from viewers is when Dae-ho, the character played by actor Kang Ha-neul, plays gonggi. In this scene, Dae-ho performed skillful hand movements and quickly succeeded in the gonggi game. However, the hand in this scene was not Kang Ha-neul’s.
In the end credits of “Squid Game 2”, Park Jong-nam appeared as “gonggi hand stand-in”. Park Jong-nam was once featured on the SBS program “Life’s Master” as a “gonggi master”.
Park Jong-nam recently made a post on his Instagram, gaining attention by revealing a behind-the-scenes story about filming “Squid Game 2.” He said, “2 days before my wedding last year, the ‘Life’s Master’ police contacted me.”
He continued, “He said it was a global OTT project, so I went to Daejeon for filming, but I was asked to sign a nondisclosure agreement. During lunch, I had the chance to eat and chat with many famous actors such as Lee Byung-hun, Lee Jung-jae and Kang Ha-neul.”
Park Jong-nam added, “They asked me how I could play the gonggi so well and congratulated me on my marriage. However, what I regretted most was that I couldn’t take photos with them or get their autographs according to the confidentiality agreement.”
Revealing that he would have to film a gonggi scene in one take, Park Jong-nam shared: “Kang Ha-neul helped me calm down before and after filming. He asked me to teach him to play the gonggi and we played together,” highlighting Kang Ha-neul’s friendliness.
After filming, Kang Ha-neul gave Park Jong-nam some bread for his wife. Park Jong-nam said, “I could understand why Kang Ha-neul was so successful,” complimenting the actor for his warm heart.
Park Jong-nam shared, “I didn’t even know it was filming ‘Squid Game 2.’ I finished shooting it before my wedding and kept it a secret for a year,” adding “I hoped that this film, with the scene I shot right before my wedding, would be a success. I also enjoyed watching ‘Squid Game 2’ with my wife.”
The gonggi scene, completed by combining Park Jong-nam’s hand movements with Kang Ha-neul’s acting, greatly contributed to improving the completeness of “Squid Game 2”.
