At the “SBS Drama Awards 2024”, leading actor Kim Nam Gil took home the “Top Excellence Award” for hit K-Drama movie, The fiery priest Season 2. Considered his fiery starring in the series, Kim Nam Gil fans might have expected victory, but what they didn’t expect was a surprise “wife” reveal in his acceptance speech.
As the actor took the stage to accept the award, he hinted that there was a different award he wanted to win: the “Best Couple Award.”
To be honest, there was one more award I was hoping to receive.
No, not the Daesang award…but I sincerely wanted the “Best Couple Award.”

I thought it would officially recognize my relationship with Kim Sung Kyun and be a significant moment, letting the world know our identity. (laughs) I apologize: he is such a generous friend. In fact, I had it saved as “Wife” on my phone, so I thought this might be SBS’s official acknowledgment. Unfortunately, this did not happen. What a pity!

After teasing the audience with his wife’s surprise reveal, Kim Nam Gil went on to thank the cast and staff of The fiery priest and reminded K-Drama fans that the series’ grand finale is coming.

I actually came here tonight ready to applaud with all my heart, but it seems that in the end I also received an award. To be honest, there was one more award I was hoping to receive. The fiery priestlike any production, it had very limited timeframes. It was a project where everyone worked tirelessly to ensure we didn’t compromise on quality. Both internal and external staff worked so hard that we managed to deliver the episodes without transmission incidents. You’re all watching, right? It’s all thanks to you. I am always grateful.
This series was not planned to have multiple seasons. And because the previous season had gone so well, there was a lot of pressure and high expectations. Despite this, our writer and director, who are not here today, worked hard and persevered to the end. And as many of my fellow actors have mentioned before, being able to act alongside such incredible talent really makes for a happy set. For The fiery priest team, every moment on set was a joy. Not just for me but for everyone, the series was pure love and joy.
There may be some regrets about some aspects of the series, but everyone here helped create a new genre The fiery priest. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all and let you know how much you have done. Your support is why I can stand here and speak in front of you.
