From Rosé’s grandmother’s disguise to Jang Wonyoung’s fake voice: How K-pop idols avoid attention

Previously, on December 12, BLACKPINK’s Rosé appeared on Capital FM in a video titled “Rosé Goes For a Very British Chippy Tea | APT, BLACKPINK and solo career secrets | Capital”.

Here the female idol revealed her rather unique method of avoiding being recognized while going out: by wearing a “grandma disguise.”

“I dressed up as a grandmother. I got a wig… I can’t believe I’m telling the world this, it’s crazy,” he honestly confessed.

Meanwhile, when appearing on the May 7 episode of “Salon Drip 2” in 2024, IVE’s Jang Wonyoung also discussed how she often uses a fake voice while ordering while going outdoors.

According to the female idol, if the cashier showed signs of recognizing her and asked her if she was Jang Wonyoung, she would deny it and lower her voice to sound different and avoid attention.

In fact, the female idol even confessed that she often feels uncomfortable while going out in Korea due to the recognition. Instead, she prefers to walk in the United States, where she is allowed more freedom.

It seems that K-pop idols also value privacy and don’t like to be disturbed in their everyday lives. Hopefully, fans can keep this in mind and refrain from harassing their favorite stars in case of casual encounters.
