NewJeans responds to ADOR’s contract dispute lawsuit
The dispute began on November 29, when NewJeans members announced their decision to terminate their contracts, citing ADOR’s violations of agreements and the agency’s failure to resolve the issues. The group’s announcement followed an emergency press conference on November 28, in which they publicly outlined their grievances, highlighting ADOR’s lack of response regarding serious breaches of contract.
On December 3, ADOR responded by filing a lawsuit with the Seoul Central District Courttrying to legally validate their exclusive contracts with NewJeans. This move sparked further public debate over the agency’s handling of the issue.
In its December 6 statement, NewJeans reiterated its position, expressing disappointment with ADOR’s approach to the controversy. The members underlined their united decision to pursue fair treatment and safeguard their professional and personal integrity, stressing that the termination of their contracts was not taken lightly but as a necessary step to defend their rights.
“Recently, we learned from the media that ADOR has filed a lawsuit seeking confirmation that our exclusive contracts are still valid,” the statement read. “In its statement, ADOR failed to correctly assert that there were no violations of the exclusivity contracts, instead repeatedly arguing that the contracts cannot be terminated until the company recovers its support and investments.”
“However, we have already returned profits above the investment to ADOR and HYBE,” he continues. “Despite this, HYBE has attempted various forms of interference, including defamation and reverse viral marketing, to devalue us, and ADOR has allowed this to happen under new management. This is as if the company is producing malicious comments against us, the very artists they are supposed to protect. Considering this collapse in trust, we have come to the conclusion that we will likely suffer even more serious damage in the future.“
