Career
Debut as MINX
In September 2014, members JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon and Dami debuted as a 5-member girl group called “MINX”, which embraced a bright and happy concept. MINX released a digital single and a mini-album, before their agency, Happyface Entertainment, announced that the girl group will debut again with 2 new members: Handong and Gahyun.
He debuts again as Dreamcatcher
On January 13, 2017, Dreamcatcher officially debuted the album’s first single “Nightmare” and title track “Chase Me”, kicking off their “Nightmare Series”.
The girl group has since released various other albums and singles with a dark and horror-based concept, slowly but surely gaining attention, despite their music – which is heavily inspired by the rock genre – not being popular among the public.
In fact, the girl group described themselves as an “elevator idol” group, growing step by step.
Despite not being mainstream in Korea, Dreamcatcher has managed to secure a fairly stable international fan base, which is recognized by Korean netizens.
Dreamcatcher, who went through various difficulties together as a girl group under a small company, revealed that although the relationship between the members was initially difficult, they now know and understand each other well.
In fact, the girl group managed to survive K-pop’s “7-year curse”, as all members, including Chinese member Handong, renewed their contract with their agency in early 2024.

Rigged votes
In 2022, the MAMA Music Awards announced that they would make all-out efforts to prevent fraudulent voting and stated that the Dreamcatcher fandom appeared to have participated in illegal voting. In particular, the voting graph for the female group rose abnormally at one point, arousing suspicion.
E-cigarette smoking
Previously, when Dreamcatcher released behind-the-scenes videos of their 2023 US tour, member Yoohyun was spotted with a white object in one hand, raising suspicions that he smokes e-cigarettes.
Although the suspicions were never confirmed, fans did not criticize Yoohyun, instead saying that the female idol can do what she likes since she is an adult.
Health problem
In July 2024, it was announced that member Siyeon had to visit the hospital due to symptoms of ill health and anxiety. As a result, he had to be absent from promotional activities for Dreamcatcher’s tenth mini-album “VirtuouS”.
Unique light stick
The official Dream Catcher light wand became a hot topic in Korea due to its unique design. In particular, the lightstick is equipped with an extension, which makes it up to 78.5 cm long – like a magic scepter.
