The Korean music industry has been hit by President Yoon Suk Yeol’s declaration of martial law emergency, leading some agencies to halt their activities and scheduled events. However, KBS announced that it will proceed with its events as scheduled after martial law is lifted.
On December 4, Korean news outlet Star News reported that KBS has decided not to cancel its upcoming year-end shows.
The news came after President Yoon Suk Yeol’s announcement to lift martial law imposed in South Korea, which was reportedly aimed at protecting the country’s liberal democracy from pro-North Korean forces and its opposition.
A KBS official further said, “We will not cancel the year-end awards ceremony and no changes will be made to the existing program.”
KBS also has a series of events at the end of 2024, as it plans to hold the 2024 KBS Song Festival on December 20, the 2024 KBS Entertainment Awards on December 21, and the 2024 KBS Drama Awards on December 31.
In other news, industry insiders have revealed that K-pop companies have been asked to cancel their businesses for their artists. According to initial reports, insiders also revealed that it was not certain whether the end-of-year events would still take place despite this declaration.
