Netizens were disappointed.
Recently, gang LUCIA member Sangyeop drew criticism for his choice of words on the fan messaging app, Bubble.
His choice of words while replying to a comment received a lot of reactions from netizens.
“Fan: My polaroid camera.
Sangyeop: Paper ssagae (wrap)”
“Fan: What is a document ssagae?
Sangyeop: Paper comes out when taking a photo with a Polaroid.”
This garnered a negative response online as the expression “ssagae” began to be used in places, including online communities like DC Inside, as a derogatory remark towards the issue of gender conflict in Korea.
Not long after, Sangyeop posted an apology for his statement.
“This is Choi Sangyeop. I found that I disappointed a lot of people with my choice of words. I apologize for worrying my supportive fans due to my careless choice of words.
The word choice I made has no other meaning or intent. But I am thinking deeply about my carelessness and will be more cautious from now on.
Even though I’m a little late, I sincerely send this message to apologize to the fans I disappointed.
I deeply apologize once again to everyone who supports me.
—Choi Sangyeop

- “How could he use a word like that?”
