The video featured Irene as a guest, engaged in a conversation with the channel’s owner, GGondaehee. When asked about her debut story, Irene confessed that she followed a friend to an audition and got selected.
In particular, Irene explained, “My friend wanted to be a celebrity, but going alone seemed a little… She felt scared and alone, so she asked me to come with me and I went. But while I was there, I ended up auditioning too and made it to the final.”
According to Irene, her friend was eliminated first, to which GGondaehee commented, “It usually goes like this,” referring to other similar audition stories from other celebrities.
Meanwhile Irene added: “Even though I’m shy and easily embarrassed… In school talent shows, I always stepped up to perform. Most people wouldn’t do it if pushed, but singing and dancing was fun for me.” surprising the guest.
However, despite making it to the final of the SM audition, Irene was eliminated there.
“I cried my eyes out”, she confessed, adding that she couldn’t hold back the tears right there, on the spot.
“At that moment I understood something. Until then, I thought I was just doing it for fun, but that’s when I realized how much I loved it and how much I wanted to do it. That’s when it hit me,” Irene continued, revealing that she basically discovered herself in that moment.
Then, the female idol also shared that she kept in touch with the company afterward, and eventually became a trainee before debuting with Red Velvet after 5 years.
Later, when asked if there were any memorable moments or rebellious experiences during her internship days, Irene shared: “Since I’m from Daegu, I stayed in the accommodations. While living in the neighborhoods, on the way from the company to the dormitory, I stopped at every convenience store.”

According to Irene, SM normally doesn’t allow trainees to eat a lot and manage their weight, but Irene ate everything and gained weight, indulging herself.
