On November 29, BLACKPINK Rosé appeared on KBS2’s “The Seasons – Lee Young-ji’s Rainbow,” marking her first appearance on the network in 9 years. He performed a live duet of “APT”. with MC Lee Young-ji, receiving a warm response from the audience. Rosé expressed her excitement, “I’m happy to finally be on KBS.”
“APT.” was inspired by a Korean drinking game and came to life through Rosé’s collaboration with Bruno Mars. Rosé revealed, “I suggested three songs to Bruno Mars and ‘APT’. it was a topic that everyone objected to, but I secretly added it because I thought it would be funny. Bruno Mars showed interest and asked: “What does ‘APT.’ Mean?” After hearing that it was based on a drinking game, he agreed, “Sounds like fun.”
Rosé described Bruno Mars as having a “tsundere” personality and even sang his song “Too Good to Say Goodbye”. She laughed and said: “When I said I was going to sing this song, Bruno said it was difficult. Bruno, I did it” teasing him playfully.
During the broadcast, Rosé also talked about her upcoming full album “rosie”. He explained, “The album includes stories from my twenties that aren’t necessarily good. I hope it offers comfort and empathy.
Rosé also shared the inspiration behind her pre-release track “APT.” and the album track “number one girl”. He said, “After BLACKPINK’s tour, I had a hard time dealing with hateful comments. “number one girl” is a song that honestly reflects that experience,” adding, “Working on this song made me feel a lot lighter.”
Additionally, Rosé sang the late Yoo Jae-ha’s “Why I Love You,” expressing her gratitude and love for her parents. He shared, “As I sang, thinking about my parents’ love, the lyrics resonated more deeply.” In a video letter to her younger self, she encouraged herself: “Gradually you will let go. You’re already doing great.”
Rosé spent her nights reading hateful comments, which caused her personal suffering. This is one of the reasons that motivated her to write the songs on her new album to express her emotions.
Rosé’s heartfelt stories and live performances can be seen again in episode 10 of “The Seasons – Lee Young-ji’s Rainbow,” airing on KBS JOY on November 30 at 10:20 pm (KST).
