Among the idol audition shows released in 2024, SBS’ “Universe League” is showing signs of success for THESE reasons.
The survival program “Universe League” officially began on November 22, which is the male counterpart of season 1 “Universe Ticket”. The latter show formed UNIS.
According to OSEN on the 27th, the first episode recorded a viewership rating of 0.7% – the highest rating among the first idol audition broadcasts released this year.
Several programs such as “Make Mate 1”, “SCOOL”, “Starlight Boys” and others were also launched in 2024, but how did the new program earn this viewership rating among competitors?
The first reason is its unique format that moves away from the usual idol broadcast. Instead of focusing on individual contestants, the show made a championship-based competition: dividing the 42 contestants into three teams (Groove, Rhythm, and Beat).
The so-called directors (judges), together with the spectators, will help each other to form the final team that will win the “Prism Cup”, their much-coveted debut.
Through a series of rounds, members can be swapped between teams, still pushing each competitor to showcase their best skills while maintaining team harmony.

Secondly, not only the competition between the candidates, but also the intense battle between the judges attracts attention.
The three teams are led by some of the best idols of all generations, including BTOB Changsub (Groove), GOT7 Yugyeom and VENDORS EL CAPITXN (Beat), as well as WayV Ten and YangYang (Rhythm). Jay Park also joined as MC.
Finally, the show gained huge audience interest by dropping its title song, “We Ready”, before the program. By posting videos on its official SNS, the trainees got promoted and gained their fan base even before episode 1.
Among the contestants, some fan favorites include JL Gaspar from the Philippines, Cha Woong Ki (ex-TO1), Park Han, Steven, Seo Jeong Woo, Kairi (ex-TFN), and more.
