On November 22, Min Hee-jin filed a defamation lawsuit against Belift Lab executives, including CEO Kim Tae-ho, for alleged violations of the Information and Communications Network Act. She is also suing the company for 5 billion KRW in damages, rejecting Belift Lab’s claim that a lawsuit against her was delayed because of her actions. Min Hee-jin accused the executives of spreading false information about her in videos and press statements, calling for criminal sanctions.
This comes after Belift Lab filed a KRW 20 billion (about $14.2 million) lawsuit against Min Hee-jin, accusing her of falsely claiming that ILLIT had copied NewJeans. Min Hee-jin had criticized the similarities between the two groups, but Belift Lab denied the accusations. A court hearing for both cases is scheduled for January 10, 2024.
Min Hee-jin is also facing a KRW 5 billion (about $3.5 million) lawsuit from Source Music, another subsidiary of HYBE, with a hearing set for the same day. Min Hee-jin announced her resignations from ADOR and HYBE on November 20, citing unresolved disputes and HYBE’s refusal to acknowledge its mistakes.
