Composer Jung Da-eun (now Lee Tae-kyun), who had previously attracted attention by being included in the police investigation due to his involvement in the late actor Lee Sun-kyun’s drug case, has been declared not guilty in the second trial on charges of making false statements about his ex-girlfriend and former idol trainee Han Seo-hee’s drug use.
Notably, on November 21, the Criminal Division 1-2 of the Seoul Eastern District Court upheld the initial ruling, rejecting the prosecution’s appeal and maintaining Jung’s innocence on the perjury charges.
The court explained its decision, stating that, considering Han Seo-hee’s testimony that she injected drugs into a bathroom, it seems plausible that neither Han Seo-hee nor the defendant witnessed the drug use by the defendant. ‘other. Therefore, the defendant’s claim that he was unaware of Han Seo-hee’s drug use does not seem unreasonable.
Jung Da-eun was initially indicted in January 2023 for allegedly lying during Han Seo-hee’s 2017 investigation. At that time, Han Seo-hee was arrested on drug charges, and Jung testified that he had never seen Han using drugs or knowing how he administered them.
In November 2023, the First District Court ruled in favor of Jung, citing key evidence as follows:
- Letters exchanged between Han and another inmate indicated that Han may have administered the drugs himself.
- At the time of his arrest, multiple syringes containing only Han Seo-hee’s DNA were found.
The court also noted that Han Seo-hee, whose relationship with Jung had soured, may have made false statements during the court proceedings to Jung’s disadvantage.
The prosecution appealed the first ruling, arguing that Han Seo-hee’s testimony was credible and questioning the authenticity of the letters presented. However, the appeals court rejected these claims, upholding the original not guilty verdict.
On the other hand, Jung Da-eun attracted public attention in 2019 for her romantic relationship with Han Seo-hee. Jung, an electronic music composer, has since changed his name to Lee Tae-kyun after receiving male hormone treatments.
Jung has a history of drug-related convictions, having been sentenced to prison for methamphetamine use in 2016 and 2021. He has also been rearrested on similar charges in recent years.
This case continues to attract considerable public and media attention due to its complex intertwining of legal, personal and public interest issues.
