A Chinese woman, surnamed Liu, has died after undergoing six different plastic surgeries in the space of 24 hours. After taking out a $5,600 loan, she underwent the surgery at a clinic in Nanning, China.
It all started with double eyelid surgery and a nose job that lasted 5 hours. Next, she had liposuction on her thighs. The following morning, fat was injected into her face and breasts.
She was discharged the next day. However, she suddenly collapsed in the clinic. After being transferred to hospital, she died later that day. The cause of death was acute respiratory failure caused by a pulmonary embolism due to liposuction.
Her family, including her husband, eight-year-old daughter and four-year-old son, are suing the clinic for compensation. Initially, the court found the clinic fully liable and ordered compensation of more than $140,000. However, after an appeal, the sentence was revised to around $80,000 as his physical condition may also have contributed to his death.
The situation attracted attention online, where netizens left a series of comments criticizing the practice’s lack of professionalism. “Six surgeries in one day? Does the clinic have no common sense? Haven’t they considered the risk of complications, especially with liposuction, which can easily lead to blood clots?” wrote one netizen.
The tragic incident is a reminder of the harm that can be caused by illegal or unlicensed practices.
