While continuing to capitalize on his current popularity, Kim Tae Ri has already announced his next project, attracting considerable attention from the public. His next work is the animation “Necessary for This Star”. He works with actor Hong Kyung in this project.
Both actors, known as colleagues from the same agency, previously worked together in the SBS drama “The Revenant,” which aired last year.
Kim Tae Ri and Hong Kyung’s new work, “Necessary for This Star,” is an animated film depicting the world’s farthest long-distance romance between astronaut Nan Young and musician Jay. It attracted attention as Netflix’s first Korean animated work.
After pouring everything into “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born,” Kim Tae Ri moves on to a new challenge. Known for her versatility in dramas and films, she once again proves the phrase “Kim Tae Ri defines the genre” with her choice to venture into voice acting for an animation.
Kim Tae Ri lends her voice to the protagonist of “Necessary for This Star”, directed by Han Ji Won, and will connect with audiences around the world. The Netflix production, due out next year, follows Nan Young, an astronaut in space, and her love story with Jay, a musician on Earth. It marks Kim Tae Ri’s first voice acting role, as she conveys a fated love that spans between space and Earth.
Hong Kyung voices Jay, Nan Young’s love interest in the film.
The story delves into their tender relationship. Nan Young, voiced by Kim Tae Ri, is an astronaut selected for a Mars exploration project in 2050. Nan Young wishes to discover the traces of her mother, who failed to return to Earth after a past space mission. Meanwhile, Jay, voiced by Hong Kyung, is a musician who repairs retro audio equipment. Through Nan Young’s mother’s record player, the two meet fatefully, developing a touching love that transcends the vast distance between Earth and Mars.
The production process of “Necessary for This Star” took an unconventional approach. Kim Tae Ri and Hong Kyung recorded their voices first to bring out the characters’ emotions and circumstances vividly. Additionally, live-action footage was shot to blend images of the actors with their animated counterparts, adding depth to the portrayal of Nan Young and Jay.
Director Han Ji Won explained the creative process during Netflix’s new work presentation event at the Busan International Film Festival on October 4. The director shared, “We explored ways to draw inspiration from Kim Tae Ri and Hong Kyung not only for their voices but also for building the characters’ actions and performances. We also asked the actors to play crucial scenes, in which their acting was in some cases explosively realistic.“
