5 K-pop groups that were most successful after a member’s departure

Facebook

Departures from K-pop groups will always be a shock to the community, whatever the reason. However, some netizens said that other groups may have found more success after the departure of a particular member.

On October 14, netizens gathered in a forum, titled “When does the group improve after a member leaves?”

Here are the 5 K-pop groups mentioned in the thread:

1. THE SERAPHINS

Netizens included LE SSERAFIM in the forum, and many recalled former member Garam’s allegations of school violence in 2022. The controversy caused a huge stir within the K-pop community at the time and while netizens stated which had caused quite a stir for the group, the issue did not define LE SSERAFIM in their success as a fourth generation group.

2. WINNER

According to the post, WINNER was also mentioned by netters, covering the departure of former member-turned-soloist Nam Taehyun.

Netizens said that WINNER received more exposure and a change in musical direction.

3. (G)I-DLE

(G)I-DLE’s case is the most questionable among all the groups on the list, as the fourth-generation act has already gained steady momentum before Soojin’s departure in August 2021.

Despite the controversy, (G)I-DLE has continued to strive to reach new heights with their music.

4. Stray children

Originally a nine-member group that debuted in 2018, Stray Kids initially had former member Woojin in the lineup. However, he left in October 2019.

K-netz in the forum mentioned “Chk Chk Boom” singers as they are currently going global and exploding internationally.

5. NMIXX

Jinni’s stint in NMIXX was short-lived as the former member left the group in December 2022. Netizens included the group due to the gradual building of their fandom through numerous music releases.
