Welcome back, 2NE1. The iconic girl group, reunited after disbanding in 2016, will return to the SBS Gayo Daejeon stage after ten years.
The last time the quartet performed at the awards ceremony, scheduled for Christmas this year at the INSPIRE Arena in Seoul, was in 2014, just two years before they wrapped.
The group announced their return in style in July, with news of a world tour to celebrate their 15th anniversary, starting in Seoul, South Korea, in October, with stops in Osaka, Japan, in November and Tokyo, Japan, in December.
The four-member group, consisting of Park Bom, Sandara Park, CL and Minzy, debuted with their 2009 single “Fire” and became a quintessential household name following the success of their girl anthem, “I’m the Best”.
Following Minzy’s departure, the group took a year-long hiatus, prompting their eventual disbandment, with a proper goodbye in the form of their song, “Goodbye”, in 2017.
CL, the leader of the group, revealed this in an interview with AP Entertainment who at the time were as taken by surprise as fans by the news of the group’s dissolution, after finding out about it through social media.
“I was at a Thanksgiving dinner and my phone blew up,” he said.
“But yes, those situations…” he trailed off, adding that that moment had been “very heartbreaking for me.”
