tvN has released the Reply 1988 10th anniversary highlight reel, offering the first glimpse of the beloved Ssangmundong families reunited after nine years.
The special programme, set to premiere on December 19, captures the cast’s nostalgic one-night, two-day journey as they celebrate a decade since the end of the drama, and the teaser has already ramped up the excitement with the hint of a surprise appearance by Jinju.
The new show reunites the original actors from the 2016 hit drama Reply 1988 to commemorate their ten-year debut. Cast members including Sung Dong-il, Lee Il-hwa, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Sung-kyun, Choi Moo-sung, Kim Sun-young, Yoo Jae-myung, Ryu Hye-young, Hyeri, Ryu Jun-yeol, Go Kyung-pyo, Park Bo-gum, Ahn Jae-hong, Lee Dong-hwi, Choi Sung-won and Lee Min-ji reunite once again to relive the memories through a trip to MT and various nostalgic segments inspired by the original series.
In the highlight video released on December 11, the five iconic families enjoy an outing that perfectly retains the warm, retro vibe of 1988. Despite the passage of time, their chemistry, fashion and effortless interactions recreate the familial charm that fans have so missed. Their trip to the beach in Gangwon province includes games, meals and long chats that fill in the gaps of the last ten years.
Distinctive dynamics between families also emerge. The Jungbong family reunites with Ryu Jun-yeol joining Ra Mi-ran, Kim Sung-kyun and fan-favorite couple Ahn Jae-hong and Lee Min-ji. In one scene, Kim Sung-kyun jokes with Ra Mi-ran, “It seems like you won the lottery again,” echoing their memorable storyline and eliciting nostalgic laughter.
The Deok-sun family is more lively than ever. Sung Dong-il, Lee Il-hwa, Ryu Hye-young, Hyeri and Choi Sung-won immediately recreate their lively family atmosphere. When his two daughters begin to dance, Sung Dong-il mutters, “Didn’t I tell you to stop?” a moment that perfectly reflects the show’s beloved family humor.
The biggest shock comes at the end of the video, when a mysterious guest enters. Since only a silhouette is shown, viewers quickly speculated on social media that it could be Jinju, the youngest daughter of Sun-woo’s family, played by Kim Seol. The teaser shows Kim Sun-young and Go Kyung-pyo crying immediately after seeing the visitor, intensifying the anticipation for the emotional reunion between the three.
Reply 1988 10th Anniversary also marks tvN’s 20th anniversary edition and will premiere on December 19 at 8:40 p.m.
